Colour

Colour comes into my work through the use of bright bungee cords & ratchet straps which are coloured brightly for safety due to how/where they are used. When it comes to printing I always use Mars Black & occasionally Process Red, for me that is all I have needed. Black gives the feel of stained concrete when printed onto translucent plastics & when printed with Red my work begins to reflect tabloid newspapers. Recently I made the bold decision to use Fluorescent Orange, Yellow, Red & Green on my prints in preparation for exhibition. The colours I have chosen to use in these prints make reference to the straps and cords as well as hi-vis clothing. The link goes towards bringing a sense of labour into the work by drawing attention to the tension that the straps & cords ave when they hold the work in place. The bright print is on the reverse side of the Monarflex to the black detail. This highlights the image from behind and also shows the grid pattern within the material.

I have also decided to make a series of 4 prints, each with an edition of 9. Following on with the technique of printing an image on one side with a strip of colour on the reverse that highlights a certain detail. More details on those soon…
